We ID                                                                                                   Social Responsibility is a cornerstone of the NSLC’s mandate. It is a core responsibility of every NSLC employee to enforce the laws of the province of Nova Scotia and to take every measure to ensure that beverage alcohol is not accessed by minors. Every day, NSLC employees face the difficult task in determining who is and who might not be of legal drinking age.

In 2009, the NSLC conducted a series of focus groups with its employees to learn more about the challenges faced at store level when asking customers for identification. Employees asked for practical training examples, tools on how to respond to real-life scenarios faced by employees and supporting materials to educate the public on why the NSLC asks for identification and the importance of doing so.

The NSLC’s WE ID program responds to those requests and renews the NSLC’s focus to deliver on our social responsibility mandate. NSLC policy requires the request and production of age identification on any purchase transaction in order to ensure that the beverage alcohol is not sold to any person not of legal drinking age. No sale of beverage alcohol will be permitted for any reason without adequate and appropriate identification being produced by the individual attempting to purchase the beverage alcohol upon request by the NSLC or any of its employees.
