For most of us, Thanksgiving Day is a mixture of tastes, textures and aromas. Which makes a simple wine pairing, not so simple. To help you navigate the “perfect pairing” we’ve put together a few wine suggestions that will make dinner planning just a little easier for you!
Go sparkling
Sparkling wines are an incredibly versatile wine choice and pair with a wide range of foods. The acidity that is common in a sparkling wine boosts its pairing potential. There are few appetizers or sides that will clash with a good sparkling. And they’re a delicious match for turkey! So go ahead and amplify the celebration—serve a sparkling wine throughout the entire meal.
Go white
If you’re a white wine fan, your best bet is to pick up wines with well-balanced acidity. Two white Taste Profiles to consider are Aromatic & Vibrant and Crisp & Light. Specific varietals in these Taste Profiles include Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling and Gewurztraminer. These three whites will balance the fatty and salty nature of a Thanksgiving meal.
Go red
If you’re a red wine fan, your best bet is to pick up wines with fairly tame tannins, which support the flavours of the food, not overwhelm them. Taste Profiles you should track down at your NSLC include Smooth & Medium and Bold & Full. Specific varietals with those Taste Profiles include Pinot Noir, Syrah and Zinfandel.
Here are just a few sparkling, white and red wine suggestions to serve at your Thanksgiving feast.
