Retail

Our retail stores are staffed with friendly, knowledgeable, socially responsible and customer-focused employees. We look for qualified candidates who are reliable and available to work a variety of shifts. Typical retail opportunities include casual, part-time and full-time Store Clerks, full time Retail Product Specialists and Store Management positions. All casual retail applications are handled at store level; interested candidates are invited to submit a completed application to the specific store location they are interested in working in.

    Casual Store Clerk

    Casual Store Clerks are responsible for providing high quality customer service, effectively handling transactions, ensuring that the relevant provisions of the Liquor Control Act and Regulations are adhered to, and performing other responsibilities necessary for the efficient operation and maintenance of the store. The Store Clerk is expected to perform these responsibilities in a manner that is consistent with the Purpose, Vision, and (KORE) Values of the NSLC.

    Once hired, qualified and trained casual employees will have the opportunity to apply for other retail positions including part time and full time Store Clerks, full time Retail Product Specialists, and the opportunity to enter into the Store Management stream.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Be at least 19 years of age
    • Have your Grade 12 or GED
    • Be legally entitled to work in Canada
    • Be physically able to lift 23 kg (50lbs)
    • Be willing to work shift work on an as needed basis
    • Disclose all convictions for which you have not been granted a pardon under the Liquor Control Act and/or the Criminal Code
    • Be bilingual in French and English if you are working in the Arichat, Cheticamp, Meteghan or West Pubnico store

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Previous customer service experience
    • Relevant sales experience
    • Previous cash and/or Point of Sale system experience
    • Previous experience in the beverage alcohol industry

    NSLC offers an attractive package for casual employees that includes…

    • A starting hourly pay rate of $11.60
    • Progressive hourly pay rate increases based on hours worked (first increase occurs after 400 hours to $12.93/hr at which time you join the NSGEU bargaining unit)Additional pay in lieu of benefits after 400 hours worked

Distribution Centre

Our Distribution Centre is located in the Bayers Lake Business Park, Halifax. The Distribution Centre receives, prepares, stores stock and ships product orders to our retail stores across the province.

The Distribution Centre also serves licensees within the Halifax and Dartmouth areas. It is staffed with productive, safety- oriented and customer-focused employees. Employment opportunities in our Distribution Centre are generally available on a casual basis. For these roles, we look for qualified candidates who are reliable and available to work a variety of shifts on an as-needed basis. Once hired, qualified and trained casual employees will have opportunities to apply for other Distribution Centre positions including regular part time and regular full time positions.

  1. Casual Warehouse Workers - Now Hiring!

    Casual Warehouse Workers
    (up to 48 hours per week during peak seasonal times)

     We are currently accepting applications for Casual Warehouse Workers in our Distribution Centre (DC) located in Bayers Lake Business Park. The NSLC DC receives, prepares, stores and ships product orders to NSLC retail stores across the province as well as to wholesale customers. The Warehouse Worker handles stock, picks and prepares customer orders, loads and unloads trucks, and receives inbound stock. These tasks are done in a safe, accurate, and efficient manner, and with the appropriate use of material handling equipment. 

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Be at least 19 years of age & have your Grade 12 or GED
    • Be physically able to lift 23 kg (50lbs)
    • Be comfortable working at heights (up to 35 feet)
    • Be willing to work shifts including days, evenings and/or overnight (the DC is a 24 hour operation & typical shifts are 8 hours)
    • Be willing to work up to 48 hours per week
    • Be legally entitled to work in Canada
    • Disclose all convictions for which you have not been granted a pardon under the Liquor Control Act and/or the Criminal Code and willing to complete a Criminal Record check (cost covered by NSLC)

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Previous Distribution Centre or Warehouse experience
    • Warehouse Management System experience using Radio Frequency scanners
    • Experience picking and operating powered material handling equipment such as an end rider and/or forklift

    • Progressive hourly pay rate increases based on hours worked. The first increase occurs after 400 hours to $13.33/hour at which time you join the NSGEU bargaining unit

  2. Shift Supervisor

    A result of continued growth, we are seeking a Shift Supervisor to join our team in the Distribution Centre.

    Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Shift Supervisor is responsible for the hiring, training and development, and supervision of staff to ensure the efficient operation and performance of the Distribution Centre (DC) during their shift. The Shift Supervisor evaluates performance, and provides strong leadership, training and guidance to staff in the areas of safety, customer service, change management, dispute resolution, productivity, order integrity, and sanitation. The Shift Supervisor works in close collaboration with the other shifts and fosters good labour relations.

    While developing and directing the implementation of the DC standards to ensure maximum productivity, the Shift Supervisor sets goals and objectives for the shift and motivates the Lead Hand and employees to work towards these goals and objectives. Providing strong leadership, the Shift Supervisor coaches and mentors staff to develop and maintain a competent, efficient and motivated team by providing regular feedback on performance and attendance, and ensuring formal processes are adhered to. 

    The successful candidate will provide direction, guidance and supervision to DC staff in the areas of safety, customer service, change management, dispute resolution, productivity, order integrity, and sanitation to ensure work is carried out efficiently in accordance with established methods/standards, along with the NSLC’s collective agreement requirements and the NSLC’s Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS).

    As the ideal candidate, you have post-secondary education combined with previous experience in a distribution/warehouse supervisory role within a fast-paced unionized environment. You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills which are proven in your abilities to coach and mentor staff. An excellent negotiator, you have strong problem solving and dispute resolution skills. The successful candidate will exercise sound judgement while being diplomatic and tactful.

    The Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation is seeking an individual to join the Human Resources team in the following role:

    HR Data Analyst 

    Reporting to the Manager – Payroll & HRIS, the HR Data Analyst is a responsible for providing subject matter expertise while developing solutions to organizational reporting and system configuration needs.  Possessing a depth of understanding of human resources, payroll, benefits and auditing best practices, this role leads cross-departmental collaboration to assess business needs, perform gap analysis and develop solutions aligned with organizational goals & objectives.  With a strong analytics mindset, this role translates human resources data into reporting and system functionality that supports evidence-based decision making and organizational planning.

    As a qualified candidate you will have:

    • An undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline
    • 5-7 years’ experience in human resources, HR reporting and data analysis, payroll, and/or benefits
    • Experience executing multi-site payroll, ideally in a blended union/non-union environment
    • Experience in administration of an HRIS system
    • Superior computer literacy in MS office, Web-based and Database application

    As an ideal candidate you will have:

    • CPHR, CPA or equivalent designation
    • Database Administration certificate
    • Experience with SAP and SuccessFactors

  2. Manager - IT Infrastructure

    The Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation is seeking an IT Professional to join the Information Technology team in the following role:

     Manager – IT Infrastructure

    Reporting to the Manager - IT Service Delivery, the Manager - IT Infrastructure ensures the availability of appropriate architecture and that it is in place to support current and future business requirements. This role is responsible to plan, direct, and coordinate the design, installation, and connectivity of the computer systems and network infrastructure to ensure the stable operation of the NSLC’s IT assets. This role is also responsible for telephony, data center, security systems and other electronic infrastructure and effectively leading a team that supports the NSLC’s IT Infrastructure.

     As a qualified candidate you will have:

    • Undergraduate degree or diploma in Information Technology
    • 7-10 years’ experience developing and supporting IT systems

     As an ideal candidate you will have:

    • Network architecture experience
    • Experience leading the design of technical infrastructures supporting retail
    • Experience managing and directing staff

    The successful candidate will be able to solve complex problems and make effective decisions with a high level of integrity. They will have strong knowledge of current Information Technology trends in computer hardware, server and network equipment along with a working knowledge of principles and practices of computer system operations.
