Retail

Our retail stores are staffed with friendly, knowledgeable, socially responsible and customer-focused employees. We look for qualified candidates who are reliable and available to work a variety of shifts. Typical retail opportunities include casual, part-time and full-time Store Clerks, full time Retail Product Specialists and Store Management positions.   1. Casual Retail Store Clerk

    Casual Store Clerk

    Casual Store Clerks are responsible for providing high quality customer service, effectively handling transactions, ensuring that the relevant provisions of the Liquor Control Act and Regulations are adhered to, and performing other responsibilities necessary for the efficient operation and maintenance of the store. The Store Clerk is expected to perform these responsibilities in a manner that is consistent with the Purpose, Vision, and (KORE) Values of the NSLC.

    Once hired, qualified and trained casual employees will have the opportunity to apply for other retail positions including part time and full time Store Clerks, full time Retail Product Specialists, and the opportunity to enter into the Store Management stream.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Must be at least 19 years of age
    • Must have your Grade 12 or GED
    • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
    • Must be physically able to lift 23 kg (50lbs)
    • Must be willing to work shift work on an as needed basis
    • Must disclose all convictions for which you have not been granted a pardon under the Liquor Control Act and/or the Criminal Code
    • Must be bilingual in French and English if you are working in the Arichat, Cheticamp, Meteghan or West Pubnico store

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Previous customer service experience
    • Relevant sales experience
    • Previous cash and/or Point of Sale system experience
    • Previous experience in the beverage alcohol industry

    • A starting hourly pay rate of $11.60
    • Progressive hourly pay rate increases based on hours worked (first increase occurs after 400 hours to $12.93/hr at which time you join the NSGEU bargaining unit)Additional pay in lieu of benefits after 400 hours worked

  2. Retail Product Specialist

    Retail Product Specialist

    Halifax Regional Municipality, Annapolis Valley Area, Yarmouth Area, South Shore Area, Cumberland County, Colchester County, Pictou County, and Antigonish

    With 106 stores across the province, the Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation (NSLC) provides an exceptional customer experience that is focused on a well-trained and dedicated team.

    Reporting to the Store Manager, the Retail Product Specialist (RPS) takes a lead role in enhancing and providing a superior customer experience for NSLC customers while motivating, educating and coaching staff in this area, as well as in selling skills and product knowledge. The RPS takes a lead role in ensuring the store is “ready for business” each day by handling sales transactions, contributing to effective inventory management, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and performing other general duties necessary for the safe and efficient operation of the store.

    In this role you will be expected to work a variety of shifts during key selling times, including evenings and weekends.

    The ideal candidate possesses certification from a recognized product educator like Wine and Spirit Education Trust, International Sommelier Guild, Society of Wine Educators or Canadian Association of Professional Sommelier (CAPS). She/he has excellent interpersonal and relationship skills with proven experience providing superior customer service. The successful candidate will have strong coaching and training skills with the ability to take initiative and use creativity.

Distribution Centre

Our Distribution Centre is located in the Bayers Lake Business Park, Halifax. The Distribution Centre receives, prepares, stores stock and ships product orders to our retail stores across the province.

The Distribution Centre also serves licensees within the Halifax and Dartmouth areas. It is staffed with productive, safety- oriented and customer-focused employees. Employment opportunities in our Distribution Centre are generally available on a casual basis. For these roles, we look for qualified candidates who are reliable and available to work a variety of shifts on an as-needed basis. Once hired, qualified and trained casual employees will have opportunities to apply for other Distribution Centre positions including regular part time and regular full time positions.

  1. Casual Warehouse Workers - Now Hiring!

    Casual Warehouse Workers
    (up to 48 hours per week during peak seasonal times)

     We are currently accepting applications for Casual Warehouse Workers in our Distribution Centre (DC) located in Bayers Lake Business Park. The NSLC DC receives, prepares, stores and ships product orders to NSLC retail stores across the province as well as to wholesale customers. The Warehouse Worker handles stock, picks and prepares customer orders, loads and unloads trucks, and receives inbound stock. These tasks are done in a safe, accurate, and efficient manner, and with the appropriate use of material handling equipment. 

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Must be at least 19 years of age & have your Grade 12 or GED
    • Must be physically able to lift 23 kg (50lbs)
    • Must be comfortable working at heights (up to 35 feet)
    • Must be willing to work shifts including days, evenings and/or overnight (the DC is a 24 hour operation & typical shifts are 8 hours)
    • Must be willing to work up to 48 hours per week
    • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
    • Must disclose all convictions for which you have not been granted a pardon under the Liquor Control Act and/or the Criminal Code and willing to complete a Criminal Record check (cost covered by NSLC)

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Previous Distribution Centre or Warehouse experience
    • Warehouse Management System experience using Radio Frequency scanners
    • Experience picking and operating powered material handling equipment such as an end rider and/or forklift

    Reporting directly to the Category Team Lead, Customer Strategy Team, the Associate Category Manager is responsible for the development of category fundamentals (MAPS – Merchandising, Assortment, Pricing, Shelving) based on analysis that delivers total top line sales and profit. The Associate Category Manager, in delivering organizational and divisional goals and objectives, is responsible for managing components of product categories and their performance as a distinct profit center, optimizing specific merchandise categories and programs, resulting in top line sales and gross margin dollars

  3. Payroll & HRIS Coordinator

    The Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation is looking to fill a casual position on the Human Resources team, in the role of:

     Payroll & HRIS Coordinator (15-20 hours per week for approximately 12 months)

    In this role, the incumbent will be responsible for providing support to the HRIS-Payroll Team by handling a variety of tasks to allow team members to focus on a 12-month project. The tasks will include; running system reports & creating pivot tables to present the data in an organized format, assisting with verification of timesheet information, performing audit functions under direction, documenting existing business processes and also helping with administrative work such as filing, preparing mail outs, and editing or creating documents. 

    Work in this role will take place during key business hours, hours may vary from week to week.

    As a qualified candidate, you will have:

    • A Business certificate or Diploma in Accounting and/or Human Resources
    • 1 to 3 years’ of experience working in a payroll environment
    • Strong computer literacy in standard MS Office  with advanced proficiency with Excel
    • Experience working with and running reports from Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS)
    • Experience working with MS Office, with advance Excel skills

  4. Supply Chain Clerk 4 - 12 Month Term

    The Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation is seeking a clerical professional for the role of:

    Supply Chain Clerk 4 (for approximately 12 months) 

    Reporting to the Traffic Supervisor, the Supply Chain Clerk 4 is responsible for the purchase order confirmation and acknowledgement process as well recording, reconciling and coding various expense invoices, and assisting in master data maintenance. This position also provides coverage as required of other clerical functions within Supply Chain. 

    As a qualified candidate, you will have:

    • Grade 12 plus a business certificate or diploma in Accounting
    • One year experience in a purchasing, distribution or an accounting environment

    Reporting to the Manager, Business & Technology Solutions, the Team Lead is responsible for leading, directing and providing guidance to a team in the delivery of requested modifications and additions to corporate software and data, and/or second-level support of established elements of the corporate software suite. The Team Lead is responsible for the quality and appropriateness of the solutions designed, and for the planning, coordination, quality and timeliness of the work of the team to ensure that software solutions meet business needs.

    As a qualified candidate you will have:

    • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or Business Administration /Commerce
    • Experience at the Team Lead level in the management of information system implementation
    • At least 5 years experience as a business analyst
