NSLC Announces 2015 Second Quarter Results

The Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation (NSLC) released its second quarter results today (June 29, 2015 to September 27, 2015). Compared to last year:

  • Net income (earnings) totaled $72.5 million; up $3.5 million or 5.1%
  • Total sales were $177.1 million; an increase of $8.1 million or 4.8%
  • Total volume of alcohol sold was up 3.2%
  • Overall customer transactions were up 2.1%, while the average dollar value of each transaction grew by 1.2%

“Overall this has been an exceptional quarter and a good summer in terms of performance,” said Bret Mitchell, President and CEO, NSLC. “We’re seeing yields from our merchandising and cost control efforts, and have benefitted from some well-timed sunshine during the final weekends of the season.”

Local Product Sales Highlights:

  • Nova Scotia wine sales (using locally-grown grapes) grew by 9.0% to $3.0M – building on the 16.3% growth experienced the year prior
  • Nova Scotia commercial wine sales (produced here without local grapes) grew by 9.4% to $5.7M – building on the 0.7% growth experienced the year prior
  • Nova Scotia ready-to-drink sales increased 50.8% to $0.5M – building on 62.8% growth in the year prior
  • Nova Scotia craft beer sales grew by 26.7% to $2.3M – building on the 33.2% growth experienced last year
  • Nova Scotia spirit sales grew by 128.2% to $0.3M – building on the 29.8% growth experienced last year

Operating Expense Ratio

The NSLC’s operating expense ratio for the year – including amortization and depreciation – was 13.9% compared to 14.6% reported over the prior year.

Board Expenses
