NSLC Wins Top Award for Workplace Health and Safety

The NSLC is proud to announce it’s won one of Nova Scotia’s highest awards for workplace health and safety – the Mainstay Award. Created by the Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) and Nova Scotia Department of Labour and Advanced Education, the Mainstay Awards are given each year to companies and individuals who’ve made outstanding contributions toward enhancing and supporting Nova Scotia’s safety culture.

Edging out submissions from private and public sector employers across the province, the NSLC was honoured in the “Employer Return to Work Champion” category for its continued efforts to boost the productivity, morale and participation of injured employees. The NSLC has played a provincial leadership role in this area, reducing lost time incidents in its Distribution Centre by 37%, lost days by 73% and WCB claim costs by a remarkable 87% in the past year alone.

“For us, health and safety is a cornerstone of employee engagement. It’s an opportunity to work together within a larger, more holistic context so that everybody wins,” said Roddy Macdonald, VP of Human Resources, NSLC. “At the NSLC, safety is not just an idea. It’s how we work. We are proud to be recognized by both of these organizations, and thank all of our employees for their hard work and participation.”
