Big Spruce Brewing is Atlantic Canada's first certified organic on-farm craft brewery and hop yard. Overlooking the beautiful Bras D'Or Lake on Cape Breton Island, a UNESCO Biosphere gem, the brewery opened their doors on April Fool's day in 2013 with great expectations and little fan-fare. Jeremy and Melanie White, partners in life and all things beer, needed to recruit neighbours just to help stem the flow of enthusiastic customers flooding through the door. Folks loved the beer! An unquenchable thirst for their flagship beers, Kitchen Party Pale Ale and Cereal Killer Oatmeal Stout, among a ever-changing lineup of seasonal and creative brews, spelled rapid expansion in the brewery -- doubling and trebling output year over year.

Exciting partnerships with the Alexander Graham Bell estate, and global marine tracking & research group Ocean Tracking Network, have created now-iconic beers. 'The Silver Tart' a sour raspberry wheat ale (a nod to the historic inventor's first aircraft, the Silver Dart) and 'Tag! You're It!' a modern India Pale Ale that donates 50 cents from every can sold to fund ocean research initiatives.

The last five years have seen Big Spruce garner national praise and dozens of awards, and were named Brewery of The Year in 2017 for all of Atlantic Canada.
