Propeller Brewing Company
22 years ago, John Allen, then working in the film industry, made the kind of beer at home he wished he buy. He took the leap and opened a Propeller Brewing Company on Gottingen with just two styles. Now Propeller has a wide range of styles, new and classic, including our classic, award-winning, India Pale Ale.
With so many years in business, Propeller has grown with the industry, from brewers moving on to start their own breweries to bringing new styles to the region. They've honed our core brands, such as IPA, ESB, and Pilsner, and explore new styles, like our Stone Fruit Blonde Ale, Dark Berry Sour and Galaxy IPA.
Propeller prides itself on consistent, quality beer beer lovers look forward to returning to. With an appreciation for classic, British styles, Propeller continues to evolve into new areas. There’s always something new and delicious at our Gottingen and Windmill stores, as well as the NSLC.

- John Allen:
John Allen is the founder of Propeller Brewing Company. After years as a Prop Master in the film industry in Nova Scotia, his burgeoning passion for brewing classic craft beer styles inspired him to open Propeller in 1997. He’s extremely proud of the quality, consistent, craft beer Propeller has been making for 20 years, including Nova Scotia’s favourite, our classic IPA.
Propeller started with the help of John’s family and friends, and that legacy continues with John’s son Mike now working alongside him at Propeller.
