Let’s face it, not everyone loves roughing it in the
great outdoors. If your idea of a getaway involves a
nice meal and a lot of rest and relaxation, then a
camping ‘holiday’ may feel like anything but.
However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t
ways to make your campsite more comfortable. With
a few extra touches, you can easily go from camping
to glamping.
Invest in an air mattress
Bring the comforts of home with you into the
wilderness with a comfy air mattress, soft bedding
and a good pillow. Will it increase the amount of
cargo in your trunk? Absolutely. But a good night’s
sleep under the stars without any tossing and turning
is definitely worth it, especially if you are spending a
few days in the great outdoors.
Pack a large cooler full of your favourite snacks
Who says you have to eat hotdogs cooked
over the fire just because you’re camping? Fill your
cooler with your favourite fresh foods—fruits, cheese
and crackers, dips, sliced veggies, etc. This will give
you something to snack on at the campground. Then,
for your main meals like breakfast and dinner, skip
the cooking, hop in the car and find a local
restaurant.
No glass, no worries
Glass bottles aren’t a good idea at a campsite. Luckily there are many beverage options to choose from at your local NSLC including boxed wines as well as beer, cider, pre-mixed cocktails and coolers, which are available in cans and plastic bottles. Pick up a couple of plastic glasses for you and your friends and you’ll be able to enjoy all your favourite beverages by the campfire.
Be sure to check and follow the rules for alcohol consumption at different campgrounds. Provincial parks, for example, restrict consumption to your designated campsite.
